A Bermudan whodunnit
Deborah Middleton, a Wycombe Abbey Senior of Circle c.127, is Bermuda’s newest crime novelist. Formerly a CEO of an Association of International Businesses located in her home country of Bermuda where she promoted the island as a financial centre, she has turned her hand to writing a murder mystery, creating a Bermudan fictional hero, Detective Inspector Leon “Buddy” Burgess who, together with his Bajan Sergeant, Archie Carmichael sets himself to solve a heroin smuggling case and several murders that span Bermuda, and Miami.

Deborah says, “By no means am I the first Bermudian to write a book but I may be the first Bermudian to write a murder mystery. I have always wanted to write a book and this way I have combined my love of a good “whodunit” with my knowledge of Bermuda. Although by its very nature the book deals with the seamier side of life, I have tried to strike a balance with the beauty of the island and the goodness - and sense of humour - of the people. I hope that readers will come away with a feel for the scenery, the sounds and even the smells of the island.”
The novel, which also includes two Miami detectives, a power-hungry American television evangelist, a Croatian hit man and a corrupt Bermuda business man, has enough sub-plots, bike and yacht chases to keep the reader engaged.
Deborah hopes her book will be enjoyed by Bermudians and non-Bermudians alike and is already working on a second novel with the same main characters, this time set in Bermuda and Moscow.
Deborah has lived in the UK, Cayman Islands, USA, Bermuda, Italy and Costa Rica and now lives in Mallorca. She speaks Spanish and Italian.
